USSCA
Mid-South Div1 2001-02 Series Race #3
11/3/ 01
21 entries this month, & 4 new USSCA members at Archdale
Slot Car Raceway (phone=336-431-4391/ fax=861-0574/ e-mail= Archslotnc@aol.com),
3407-G Archdale Rd., Archdale NC 27263, to drive Production
C and Restricted World 12 USSCA wing cars on
the Beast. We will next month have our 1st female
racer joining us. A racer from the 70s whos relocated
to the Archdale area. We look forward to this. Some of the best
in the world are women.
Again I pulled in just in time for Production C Tech-in! It really
does work best to drive to a race during the night & early
morning. No traffic! Garland had cleaned the turns and resprayed
them. And Iris had donuts + coffee waiting.
About 12the race got under way with local racer Chad McNiel Race
Directing and taking photos. He appears to really enjoy photographing
the PILE UPS. Says there must be something
wrong every time we have one. You see, Chad only races
Scale 4.5 Nascar and no matter how many times we tell him
these are easier to drive, he dont buy it!
9 Entries and Dennis Strickland took Concourse. JRwent
down in defeat this time.
Final results were Garland Brown,1st w/ 487 laps, Jonny "JR"
Bottoms 2 nd w/ 477 laps, Dennis Stricklandn 3rd w/ 462, Jeff
"BOBO" Hilton 4th w/ 458, his son Michael Hilton 5th
w/ 453, Tommy Mcdowell 6th w/ 440, Joe Lyons 7th w/ 438 and rounding
out the field Greg Baker 8th w/ 429.
Remember = the OVERLAP once a month of USSCA & the weekly
ASCR Production C races counts towards the points race for the
ASCRs Series.
And theres a new 4.5 Dirt Late Model Class starting
@ ASCR!
We took a quick FOOD BREAK and then started Tech for World 12/Restricted
72 gram min weight limit/non aluminum chassis cars. Regaining
his top position, Jonny "JR" Bottoms took Concourse.
Dennis, Im sure, will come back with something better next
time.
Roger Cleveland, Myrle Beach SC racer in Mid-South Div2 series,
has done a bang up job on his new Web Site Slotman21.tripod.com.
Roger has been gracious enough to post our Div1 information as
well. Thanx Rog! And keep up the good work. Looks great!
Jimmy Johnson , if youre reading this, Garland
made it REAL CLEAR to me that JRs Turboflex chassied
World 12 kicked all our butts. Better do a real good job rebuilding
that Steel + Wire chassis he busted in half. Personally, Im
contacting Slick 7 to see if theres a TRICK to getting
this boxstock 12 chassis around the tight donut on Red + White
lanes @ ASCR.
The results were JR Bottoms w/468 laps, Greg Baker
2 nd w/ 453 laps, Garland Brown 3rd w/449 laps, Dennis Strickland
w/424 in 4th, Jeff Hilton w/ 416 5th, Tommy Mcdowell w/ 406 6th,
and H "Rip" Barnes in 7th w/374.
The USSCA Mid-South Div 1 race series T-shirts still arent
ready . But Im glad to announce theyll be sporting
Kofords name as well. Box is in the mail as we speak. Thanx
to Stu + gang!
And we have a Correction to last months Report. The 2nd
place car in Res. C12, Dennis Strickland, was a SPEC 15 car!!!
Which is great news. Means we may be onto something right here!
HA! 5 cars teched in. Almost 6, as David Dyson showed up we attempted
to put a car together for him but it just wasnt coming
together well. Instead, he race directed the race for us, giving
Chad a break.
1st was the Gmanagain(this getting old FOLKS!) getting
460 laps. Atleast this time it WASNT by a margin of nearly
100 laps! I want to point out here that these cars can be very
frustrating. Keeping the wind on them and getting them DIALED
IN is not an easy task. And we saw the other side of Joe, who
after talking to his car and warning it
.proceeded to WALL
IT! We asked looked like you did that on purpose?
Mr. Lyons turned to us and said, Yup.
2nd was Dennis Strickland w/ 458 laps, 3rd Joe Lyons w/ 384,
4th JR Bottoms w/ 372 and 5th was (ya, ya, ya) me w/ 344 laps.
Think Id better spend some time working on my controllers!
A couple interesting things happened prior to + proceeding the
race. First, Garland tried placing an order for C12 motors &
found thee was none available from Mfgrs. (as opposed to Blueprinters),
and now has Paul @ Alpha building motors + sending some setups.
Second, it was brought up that we as a Sanctioned Regional Group
should actively pursue not purchasing equipment from mfgrs. who
do not now,or ever have, supported our activities. It was suggested
that we look further into this and maybe a survey of Mid-South
racers is in order.
Special thanks to Chad, Iris, Joe Lyons for continuing the C12
building, and David Dyson. And to other ASCR racers who marshaled.
